Lunch Break

In diversity, there is beauty and there is strength-

                                                                            Maya Angelou

Nowadays, during the nationwide lockdown due to Corona pandemic outspread, I am always at home and enjoying new recipes. Feels like I am eating to increase my weight at all costs. But some other days, I feel like there's something I am missing. Even though I relish the tasty variety of dishes my family indulges to prepare, but there’s something I am missing. I realized I am missing the varieties of flavor. Even if my mother cooks delicious, it has a familiar flavor. The flavor of home food. The thing is that I am missing different flavors from different lunch boxes.

During the school days, we used to eagerly wait for the lunch break. Not only because, it was a few minute’s freedom from the boring lectures, but also, that we were about to have the chance to taste the varieties of flavor.  The base material was the same, but there was a difference between ingredients and cooking style. Everyone's dish was having some unique flavor. As I am Brahmin, I am used to bringing rice, dal with ghee; but my Gujarati friend used to bring Khichu and my Muslim friend was used to bring Biryani. The base material was rice but having a separate and unique identity. We all were enjoying the different spices from different lunch boxes.

Now since lockdown, no friends and colleagues can sit together and enjoy the spices. If this continues, everybody will engage to find the flaws in others’ dishes and will not enjoy the diversity. This happens to the grownups also. Everyone has his/ her own religion, caste, skin tone, language, and faith following, but instead of enjoying diversity they always find the faults in others.

The world is beautiful because it has diverse.

If everyone will become just like us, the world will become a very boring place. Like, I can’t imagine that everyone’s lunch content is just like mine. If this happens, the lunch break will lose its enthusiasm. Try to accept this fast, because we have only 30 minutes for the break and then the classes will start. I know that I am too young to make you understand this, but sometimes it is necessary to think like a child to maintain innocence and integrity. So I am going to enjoy different cuisines, aren’t you?

Did I say cuisines?  I meant friends.
